Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a gentle system of medicine which aims to stimulate the body's own defence and healing systems. Homeopathic remedies are prepared from natural sources (plants, minerals, animals etc.) and are highly diluted, most or all of their chemical content being removed. This makes them safe and free of unwanted side-effects.

A fascinating but as yet unexplained characteristic of homeopathic remedies is that the more dilute the remedy the more potent it is.
One of the underlying principles of homeopathy is that 'like cures like': the purpose of the homeopathic consultation is to find out as much as possible about you to understand not just your symptoms but what makes you unique and different (how you feel physically, emotionally, react to your environment etc.). A remedy will be then chosen for its affinity with your symptoms and your individual characteristics.
Homeopathy treats you as an individual not just your symptoms.

Benefits of Homeopathy

Because homeopathy addresses the underlying causes of illness most health problems respond to homeopathic treatment: this includes skin conditions, fatigue, sleep disorders, allergies, heart and circulatory problems, digestive disorders, anxiety and depression, immune deficiencies, musculo-skeletal , respiratory , genito-urinary, gynecological problems. It can also help minimise the side effects of conventional treatment.

Reflexology is an ancient natural therapy based on the principle that the entire body is represented in the feet. The reflexologist uses hands to apply gentle pressure to the feet to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium. It improves nerve, blood and energy supplies to every system and organ in the body thus encouraging the body to heal itself at its own pace. Tensions are eased, circulation and elimination are improved.

Reflexology treats you as a whole person and does not look at your symptoms in isolation. Although some areas of the feet can be sensitive when they correspond to an imbalance in the body, the treatment is pleasant and relaxing.

Most people experience a feeling of well-being after treatment. It is like a 'tuning' of the body.

Benefits of Reflexology

Reflexology is beneficial for most chronic and acute conditions such as back pain, migraine, infertility, arthritis, sleep disorders, hormonal imbalances, sport injuries, digestive disorders, respiratory problems, anxiety and stress-related conditions, to name a few.

About Marie-Paule

Prior to being a therapist, Marie-Paule had a varied career: teaching then working for many years in the human rights field and the homelessness field and, more recently with people who have had a stroke and their carers.

As well as having a private practice, she has also been working as a therapist, over the years, for a number of projects aimed at groups of people with specific health problems, both in a paid and volunteer capacity. See the list to the right.

She has been involved, on a regular basis, with the training of reflexologists at the Bayly School of Reflexology. She has taught reflexology to physiotherapy students at Leeds Metropolitan University for one of their options and has also taught on the Approved Social Worker course sessions on "The non-allopathic approach to mental health".

She has been the complementary therapies consultant supervisor at the Wakefield Well Women Centre.
