What
is Counselling?
Counselling:
-
offers you a confidential space to explore your problems with
someone who will not judge you or tell you what to do
-
offers the opportunity for you to explore and understand the
source of your difficulties, (which are often linked to the
past), with someone who is trained to help you understand your
feelings, thoughts and actions
-
aims to help you discover your resources and promotes your ability
to cope with a given situation
-
helps you to achieve an improved sense of wellbeing

Benefits
of Counselling
Sometimes
people need to talk about their problems or a difficult decision with
someone other than family, friends or colleagues.
Counsellors:
-
give you the time and safe space to explore and understand your feelings
-
use their personal qualities, knowledge and experience to help you
- support
you through difficult times
-
help you to consider your options
-
empower you to choose the solution or strategies which are best for
you
Who
is it for?
I
am experienced in counselling individuals and couples who are:
-
feeling stressed, anxious, depressed, confused, unhappy
-
experiencing panic attacks / flashbacks
- experiencing
relationship / parenting / stepfamily difficulties
- experiencing
/ surviving bullying or abuse / domestic violence / discrimination
- lacking
direction / wanting to explore self development / low self - esteem
- experiencing
work-related problems
- needing
to explore their sexuality / sexual identity
- and
clients who do not have clearly defined issues but feel empty, dissatisfied
or that they need to find meaning in their lives
My
Approach:
My
approach integrates the psychodynamic, looking at past experiences to
help understand present behaviour and feelings; and elements from Imago
Therapy, Systems, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Transactional Analysis.
My approach is to work in partnership alongside my clients to enable them
to benefit from their counselling and achieve any agreed goals.
What happens at the first appointment?
At the first appointment we will have the opportunity to discuss your
difficulties, what you want from counselling and whether counselling might
help you.
We will also decide if we want to work together.
The number of sessions will be discussed at the initial appointment. Some
issues can be resolved in short term counselling, others may require longer
term work.
