What
is Osteopathy?
It is a non-invasive, hands-on
therapy. Through touch, massage, manipulation and stretching techniques,
an osteopath can diagnose and treat people with physical and emotional
problems.
The
demands of a modern lifestyle place various stresses and strains
on the muscle and joints which can cause the body to malfunction
causing pain, stiffness and other symptoms. Osteopathy is very effective
in relieving pain and other symptoms

which have a musculo-skeletal origin. The musculo-skeletal system
includes muscle, bone, ligament and connective tissues (eg cartilage,
tendons, fascia).
To
an osteopath, the body functions as a complete, working system,
so any problems affecting its structure upset the balance of our
general health. The therapeutic principles of osteopathic medicine
are based on the understanding that the human body functions as
a unit and has an inhent ability to self-regulate and self-heal.
For this reason, an osteopath will not simply want to ease the pain
and stiffness in your neck, but also want to know what is causing
that pain, which could be anything from physical injury to mental
anxiety.
